On Sunday in Dubai, chasing 172, Rohit Sharma’s men cruised to victory by six wickets with seven balls to spare. Abhishek smashed a match-winning 75 off just 39 balls, while Gill scored 47 off 28. Their opening stand of 105 runs from just 59 deliveries was not only the first century partnership of this Asia Cup but also India’s highest opening stand against Pakistan—surpassing the previous record of 77 set by Ajinkya Rahane and Gautam Gambhir in 2012.
Earlier, Pakistan posted 171 runs, boosted by 42 in the final three overs. Sahibzada Farhan top-scored with 58 off 45 balls, having survived an early chance as India dropped four catches in total—their worst fielding display since the 2022 T20 World Cup clash against Pakistan.
Despite a decent total, Pakistan’s bowling never looked threatening. They too spilled two catches, allowing Abhishek and Gill to dominate and seal a historic Indian win.
