In the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JAKSU) election, the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed “Combined Student Alliance” secured a sweeping victory. According to the results announced on Saturday (13 September), the alliance won 20 out of 25 posts.
Chief Election Commissioner Professor Dr. Md. Moniruzzaman declared the results at the university’s Senate Building.
Mazharul Islam, the Shibir-backed panel’s candidate, won the General Secretary (GS) post with the highest number of votes—3,930. His nearest rival, Abu Touhid Siam from the Student Unity Forum, received 1,238 votes, while Chhatra Dal’s candidate Tanzila Hossain Baishakhi managed 941 votes.
In the Assistant General Secretary (Male) post, Ferdous Al Hasan was elected, while Ayesha Siddika Meghla won the Assistant General Secretary (Female) post. The Shibir-backed panel also secured victories in most other secretary positions, including Education & Research, Environment, Literature & Publications, Cultural Affairs, Sports, IT & Library, Social Welfare, Health & Food Security, and Transport.
For executive member positions, female candidates Nusrat Jahan Ima, Fabliha Jahan Najia, and Nabila Binte Harun were elected. In the male category, Hafez Tariqul Islam and Md. Abu Talha won.
With this landslide win, the Combined Student Alliance has solidified its strong presence in Jahangirnagar University’s student politics.
