Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inaugurated a new 500-bed building at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in the capital. With the opening of the new building, the total number of beds at the hospital has increased to 1,000.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the newly constructed building on the hospital premises at 10 am on Saturday (August 15). During this time, she planted a sapling, participated in a prayer, and released balloons and pigeons to officially open the building.
The Prime Minister’s wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain, Social Welfare Minister Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, and other government officials and guests were present at the event.
The people concerned said that the addition of 500 new beds has created an opportunity to expand medical services for patients suffering from neurological diseases in the country. They claim that no other country in South Asia has such a large neurosciences hospital.
The hospital started its journey in 2012 with 300 beds in a 10-story building. As the patient load increased, 200 more beds were added later. Now, the hospital’s capacity has been doubled with the addition of 500 more beds in a new 15-story building.
Those concerned hope that the new building will further expand the scope of neurological treatment, patient admission, and related healthcare services.
