An oil tanker has been hit by a drone attack while crossing the Strait of Hormuz. Although the ship suffered minor damage, all the staff in it are safe. No environmental damage was reported.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Friday (August 14th).
The company said the tanker was attacked on Thursday (August 13th) while crossing the Hormuz Strait. The damage to the ship was limited after the attack and no crew members were injured.
The maritime security situation has already escalated over the U.S.-Iran conflict in the Strait of Hormuz. About 130 to 140 ships pass through this important waterway every day in normal time, but some of the number of ships are currently moving there due to the risk.
Iran is demanding control of the Strait of Hormuz. The United States has imposed sanctions on the waterways. Earlier, an oil tanker in the United Arab Emirates was also attacked.
As the Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important energy transportways in the world, any attack can create new concerns in the international oil supply and market.
