Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has taken to the field to maintain law and order in the capital Dhaka and surrounding areas ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. Since Thursday, members of the force have started carrying out their duties in various important areas.
On the occasion of Eid, BGB has been deployed in important roads, highways and traffic congestion-prone areas of the capital to make the movement of home-bound people safe and comfortable. Security has been tightened in the New Market area, especially in busy areas like New Market, Nabinagar and Bypail in Savar, Gazipur metropolis and Gazipur intersection.
According to the government’s directives, BGB members will perform their duties for seven days before Eid and three more days after Eid. They will work in coordination with other agencies of the law enforcement agencies to keep traffic on the highway normal, control over-crowds and ensure the safety of the passengers.
It is learnt that the BGB will also assist in the mobile court activities conducted in important toll plazas and traffic congestion-prone areas. The drives, led by the executive magistrates, will ensure discipline of vehicles and prevent irregularities will be given special attention.
Officials of the administration said the initiative has been taken to reduce the suffering during the Eid journey and ensure overall security. At the same time, all passengers and transport stakeholders have been urged to cooperate to maintain discipline on the road.
