The moon of the holy month of Zilhaj has been sighted in the sky of Bangladesh. As a result, the countdown to the Zilhaj month of the 1447 Hijri month begins on Tuesday.
Accordingly, the holy Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in the country on 28 May.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram in the capital on Monday evening.
After the meeting, Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad said that the decision to count the month of Zilhaj has been taken from tomorrow after receiving information about the sighting of the moon in different parts of the country.
The moon was sighted in Saudi Arabia on Monday. As there, the holy Arafat Day will be celebrated on 26th May and Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on 27th May.
In addition to the Middle East, some Muslim-majority countries, including Turkey, Indonesia and Malaysia, have also announced the celebration of Eid on the same date.
Eid-ul-Azha is one of the major religious festivals of the Muslim Ummah. Preparations have already begun across the country for this festival of sacrifice and sacrifice. The agencies concerned have started working on animal haats, transport and safety management in different areas including the capital.
