Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced the recruitment of one lakh health workers to reach the doorsteps of healthcare people across the country. Eighty percent of women will be given priority, he said.
The prime minister made the announcement while addressing a function at a meeting held at Nagar Bhaban after inaugurating the foundation stone of the beauty enhancement and flood-resistant infrastructure construction project on the two banks of the Surma River in Sylhet city on Saturday (May 2nd).
He said that quality healthcare has not yet reached many parts of the country. Not only will hospitals and doctors increase this problem, it is also important to make people aware of the disease prevention.
The prime minister said the recruited health workers will go to the village level and carry out awareness activities on health and nutrition at people’s homes. Direct advice will be given about diet, lifestyle, diabetes, heart disease, kidney complications and hygiene.
He said the initiative will play an important role in building family-based health awareness and will help prevent the disease at an early stage.
Senior officials of the political and administration, including the prime minister’s wife Zubaida Rahman, were present on the occasion.
