Amid the stalled talks with the United States, there are signs of disagreement at the top levels of Iranian power.
Various international media outlets have reported that the country’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed dissatisfaction with the role of Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Multiple reports have alleged that President Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf have accused Araghchi of bypassing the formal structure of the Foreign Ministry in policymaking and working under the influence of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), particularly over his role in nuclear and ceasefire negotiations with the United States.
Sources say the president is unhappy with Araghchi’s recent actions and may consider removing him if the situation does not change. However, there has been no official statement from the Iranian government on the matter and the claims have not been independently verified.
International reports have also said that this internal lack of coordination has hindered progress in US-Iran talks, and that the US side has been frustrated by the lack of full decision-making power of the Iranian representatives participating in the talks.
According to analysts, this tension between the political and military leadership could weaken Iran’s diplomatic position. At the same time, there is a risk that it will also affect the country’s economic situation.
In the current context, observers believe that if Iran’s internal unity and transparency in policymaking are not ensured, the country’s position on the international stage could become even more uncertain.
