  • The outbreak of measles in the country has become more alarming. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has reported the death of eleven more children due to measles and measles in the last 24 hours. At the same time, new public health conditions have been put on alert as new cases of infection have been detected in one thousand 287 children.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), all of the 11 children who died in the last 24 hours lost their lives due to suspected measles-related complications. At the same time, 229 of the newly identified patients were confirmed to have confirmed measles, while 1 thousand 58 people were identified as suspects.

The total number of cases and deaths is increasing
Since March 15th, the number of measles cases in the country has risen to 30 thousand 607. Of these, four thousand children have been infected. At the same time, 20 thousand 475 patients were admitted to the hospital and 17 thousand 81 were cleared at the end of treatment.

A total of 251 children died during this period. Forty-two of them were confirmed to have contracted measles and 209 died of suspected symptoms.

    Maximum pressure in Dhaka
According to the statistics of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the Dhaka division has the highest pressure in both cases of measles and deaths. Rajshahi, Chittagong, Khulna, Barisal, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet are in phases.

According to experts, high population density, shortage of vaccinations, and pressure of patients in hospitals are working as a major factor behind the spread of infection in Dhaka.

    The warnings of experts
Public health experts say the current situation is not just a seasonal outbreak; it is turning into a comprehensive public health challenge. The situation could get more complicated if the affected children are not kept in isolation quickly, increasing isolation and urgent vaccination programs are not strengthened.

According to them, separate wards, additional beds and community level surveillance are now essential to prevent hospital-based infections.

Keeping an eye on government measures
According to observers, the main question now is how fast the emergency health care infrastructure can be expanded to control the infection. At the same time, identifying vaccinated children and increasing the coverage quickly can be the main way to control the situation.

The rapid deterioration of the measles situation indicates that it is no longer an isolated health problem—but it poses a risk of reaching a national public health emergency.
