The Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) ship MV Bangla’s Jayatra failed to cross the Strait of Hormuz. Within hours of the start of the journey, the ship was forced to return to the Persian Gulf due to security guidance.
Shafiqul Islam Khan, the ship’s captain, said the ship had started its journey to cross the Harmuz Strait, but in the middle of the day, the Iranian naval forces received a message that the ship would not be able to advance. The ship then returned to the previous position following the safety guidelines.
“We started the journey at night. But after receiving the guidance in the middle, he had to return to the safe zone of the Persian Gulf without crossing the Hormuz.”
According to the International Agency Shipping several commercial ships in the Persian Gulf at the beginning of the night moved towards the Strait of Hormuz, but later the situation changed and most of the ships returned. Among them was ‘Bangla’s Jayatra’.
Earlier, Commodore Mahmudul Malek, managing director of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, said the ship was supposed to cross the Harmuz Strait in the stipulated time and was planning to move towards the destination in the morning.
However, the ship’s journey was suspended due to the security situation and the regional control structure, the sources said. The ship is expected to remain in the Persian Gulf until the situation returns to normal.
