Diplomatic activity in the Middle East is intensifying. Pakistan has begun preparations for the second possible round of talks between the United States and Iran. According to international media reports, the initiative is being focused on the capital Islamabad.
According to Pakistan’s high-level sources, the preparatory activities have started from Tuesday and special attention is being given to strict security measures. It is now a prime priority to ensure a safe and controlled environment for the success of the dialogue.
Diplomatic sources also indicated that the recent visit of Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir to Tehran was also part of the process. The visit is expected to discuss the issue of reducing regional tensions and paving the way for talks.
The conflict, which began on February 28th, lasted nearly 40 days after a long period of tensions over Iran’s nuclear program and the missile issue. On April 8th, both sides agreed to a fourteen-day ceasefire. Pakistan was a mediator in the entire process.
The two countries held the first round of talks in Islamabad after the ceasefire. However, no agreement was reached after about twenty-one hours of negotiations. However, both sides expressed interest in keeping the path of dialogue open.
The United States and Iran have taken a positive stance on holding a second round of talks and said Islamabad is acceptable as a venue. In such a situation, Pakistan is making rapid preparations forward so that the dialogue can pave the way for a permanent solution.
Analysts say the successful dialogue could have a positive impact not only on bilateral relations, but also for the security and energy stability of the entire region.
