  • The government has launched a QR code-based ‘Fuel Pass’ app at 11 selected petrol pumps in Dhaka, which is being considered as a new initiative to make the fuel distribution system more transparent and regulated. The Mineral Resources Division under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said this information in a release.

This service has been launched as a pilot project under the supervision of the government agency Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation . From now on, motorists will have to use the ‘Fuel Pass’ app to get fuel at designated pumps.

The pumps that have started providing services under this initiative include Karim and Sons in Shyamli, Eastern Enterprise in Mirpur-1, Gazipur Traders in Uttara, Sattar and Company in Tejgaon Industrial Area, Rahman Filling Station in Mirpur-10, Karim and Brothers in Tejgaon, Rashid Filling Station in Mohakhali, BRB Filling Station in Tejgaon, Sheba Filling Station in Badda, Hamid Filling Station in Mirpur and Sumaiya Filling Station in Kazipara.

Instructions for using the app at these pumps have come into effect from today, April 18. At the same time, specific guidelines for using the QR code-based system have also been issued for users and pump managers.

Earlier, this app was made mandatory for motorcycle drivers at seven pumps in the capital on April 13. Those concerned said that there are plans to gradually expand this digital system to other filling stations in the country and all types of vehicles.

According to analysts, if this initiative is successful, it will increase transparency in energy distribution, reduce waste and irregularities, and make services easier and more modern for consumers.
