The government has launched the ‘Krishak Card’ program to strengthen institutional support for the country’s agricultural sector, under which it plans to include 27.5 million farmers in the next five years, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said .
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony held in Tangail, he said that this card will serve as an important tool to make agriculture a sustainable and profitable sector. Through it, farmers will be able to easily access loans, subsidies and other government benefits.
The Prime Minister also said that a significant number of agricultural loans have already been waived to reduce the financial pressure of small farmers. In addition, initiatives are being taken to reform market management to ensure fair prices for agricultural products.
He said that industrialization in agriculture-dependent regions will be increased to add value to agricultural products, so that farmers’ income will increase. To this end, initiatives have been taken to build modern storage infrastructure, including cold storage.
According to policymakers, this multifaceted initiative centered on agriculture can have a positive impact on the country’s overall economy, as a significant portion of the population is directly or indirectly dependent on this sector.
