Long queues and uncertainty are increasing in petrol pumps in different parts of the country as the fuel supply crisis is acute. In this situation, the pump owners have proposed to set a timeline for the operation of the pump.
In a discussion on the fuel oil market and supply situation on Tuesday (March 31st), the Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners Association said the proposal to shut down the pumps from 8am to 7am every day is under consideration.
The organization claims that the filling stations are struggling to keep the activities normal as there is no supply of fuel as needed from the depot. In such a situation, it will be easier to manage the supply and reduce waste if it is stopped at a certain time.
In the discussion, the pump owners said that if the oil is supplied to the tanker partially, the transportation cost increases, which leads to commercial losses. This cost can be reduced if the supply is ensured at full capacity.
Besides, the emphasis was also placed on strengthening the integrated supply management at multiple pumps in the same district. In some cases, there are allegations of unauthorised sales or stockings, it is not an overall picture of the entire sector.
An official decision has not yet been made on the impact it will have on the consumer if the current proposal is implemented.
