Head of US National Counterterrorism Center resigns in protest against Iran war

  • Joe Kent, the director of the US National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), has resigned, sources said, citing the ongoing military operation against Iran.

Kent explained his position in a letter to US President Donald Trump, stating that he did not morally support the ongoing conflict surrounding Iran and that his personal conscience did not allow him to agree with this policy.

In the letter, he also claimed that Iran posed no immediate threat to the United States. According to him, the United States became involved in this conflict due to the influence and political pressure of regional allies.

The matter became public after the letter was published on social media.

There was no immediate response from the White House or related agencies.

According to analysts, such a resignation of a top official in the national security structure could indicate policy differences within the administration, especially in the context of an ongoing international conflict.
