The Iranian capital Tehran has seen unusual signs of pollution in the atmosphere following the recent attacks on oil facilities. Many residents of the city noticed thick black clouds and black rain in the sky on Sunday morning, raising public concern.
Fred Plitzen, a Tehran-based correspondent for international media outlet CNN, said that the presence of black particles resembling oil is visible in the rainwater. According to him, the rainwater is much darker than normal and shows signs of being mixed with oily substances.
Earlier on Saturday evening, several fuel installations in Tehran were attacked. Israeli forces claimed that the installations were used to supply fuel to various military and strategic sectors. Video released after the attack showed thick smoke and flames rising into the sky from the Shahran oil refinery area in the city.
Analysts believe that oil-like particles and carbon released into the atmosphere from explosions and fires mixed with rainwater could be the cause of this unusual rainfall.
Authorities have advised citizens not to go out unnecessarily and to avoid direct contact with rainwater. Relevant agencies are said to be working to monitor the situation.
