Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged foreign diplomats posted in Dhaka to support Bangladesh’s candidate for the presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman.
He made the call at an iftar ceremony held in honor of diplomats at the state guest house Jamuna in the capital on Friday. Ambassadors, high commissioners and representatives of international organizations from various countries were present at the ceremony.
The Prime Minister said Bangladesh has long been playing a constructive role in multilateral diplomacy and international cooperation. She expressed hope that the support for Bangladesh’s candidacy in the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly will further strengthen this continuity.
He further said that the government is committed to protecting human rights, freedom of expression and establishing a culture of mutual tolerance. He also mentioned that the government is prioritizing strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring the rule of law.
