Following the publication of the gazette for the 13th National Parliament election, various lists of possible names of ministers and state ministers are circulating in the media and social media. However, relevant BNP sources have dismissed these lists as “conceptual”.
Party sources say that Tarique Rahman is finalizing the cabinet list in great secrecy. In this process, he did not even consult with most of the leaders of the party’s standing committee. Although he consulted with a handful of senior leaders, they requested him to take the decision alone.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has won a landslide victory in the elections . According to the results announced by the Bangladesh Election Commission , the party has won 209 seats so far; results of two seats have been postponed and voting has not taken place in one seat. As the party prepares to form a new government after two decades, who will be in the cabinet is now the central curiosity.
Several reliable sources in the BNP say that only the party chairman knows the final list—a ‘secret file’ in party parlance. Although many of the elected MPs are interested in the ministry, they do not have the opportunity to lobby the leadership directly; most of them are telling their qualifications and past contributions to the movement through their seniors. Still, it is believed that some senior leaders are almost certain to be in the ministry.
