The much-discussed India-Pakistan match, which has been in limbo due to geopolitical tensions, is finally going to take place. The Pakistan government said on Monday that it has agreed to play India in the T20 World Cup on February 15.
Pakistan had earlier hinted at boycotting the match, citing security and political tensions. However, Islamabad changed its position after diplomatic efforts by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka are also said to be actively involved in the talks.
The official statement said the decision was taken to preserve the spirit of sportsmanship and maintain the continuity of international cricket. The solution was paved after discussions between Sri Lankan President Anuradha Kumaraswamy and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
