Dinajpur—Former Water Resources Minister and former MP from Thakurgaon-1 constituency Ramesh Chandra Sen has died while in custody. He was taken to the emergency department of Dinajpur Medical College Hospital at 9:29 am on Saturday and was declared dead by doctors.
The prison authorities said that he was sent to the hospital from Dinajpur District Jail after he suddenly fell ill in the morning. He had been in prison since last August in three cases, including murder. The prison administration said that the body will be handed over to the family after the legal process.
Born on April 30, 1940 in Kashalgaon village, Ruhia Union, Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila, Ramesh Chandra Sen studied at Rangpur Carmichael College. He was elected as a member of parliament five times and was last elected as an MP in 2024 on the nomination of the Awami League. In his long political career, he also served as a member of the party’s presidium and Minister for Water Resources.
