The interim government has decided to change the name of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). According to the government’s decision, the new name of the force will be the Special Intervention Force (SIF) . At the same time, changes are being made to the uniform of the force. The Ministry of Home Affairs has said that a government order in this regard will be issued soon.
Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury told reporters after a meeting of the core committee on law and order at the secretariat on Tuesday (February 3). He said the decision was taken after reviewing the structure and activities of the force and work on preparing new uniforms has also begun.
Formed in 2004, RAB’s initial name was ‘Rapid Action Team (RAT)’, which was later known as the Rapid Action Battalion. After almost 22 years, this elite force is going to start its journey with a new name and identity.
