The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to exclude Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup 2026 and include Scotland. Cricket-based media outlet Cricbuzz confirmed this information on Saturday.
Scotland will replace Bangladesh in the tournament, which is scheduled to begin in India and Sri Lanka on February 7. Earlier, the ICC had given the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) 24 hours to clarify its position. The organization finally took a tough decision after not receiving a satisfactory response within the stipulated time.
As per the new decision, Scotland will be placed in Group C of the preliminary round. They will play against West Indies on February 7, Italy on February 9 and England on February 14 – all matches will be held in Kolkata. The team will then face Nepal in Mumbai on February 17.
Cricbuzz reported that attempts to contact Scotland Cricket CEO Trudy Lindblad on this matter were not immediately responded to. However, sources said that formal communication between the ICC and Cricket Scotland in Dubai has already been completed.
Analysts are seeing Scotland’s inclusion in place of Bangladesh as a significant and controversial decision in international cricket, adding a new dimension to the administrative and diplomatic discussions surrounding the World Cup.
