BNP has expelled 59 rebel candidates for contesting the upcoming 13th national elections in defiance of the party’s decision. The decision was announced in a press release signed by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday.
The notification said that the expelled candidates have been relieved of all positions, including primary membership, in the party and the order will be effective immediately. Earlier, the party expelled 11 more rebel candidates on December 30.
The expelled leaders were candidates for various parliamentary seats in eight divisions of the country. BNP sources said the measure was taken to maintain party discipline and implement central decisions.
