Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke by phone on Friday (January 16) to discuss regional stability, the security situation and recent developments in Tehran.
The Kremlin statement said Putin stressed the need for a political and diplomatic solution to the Iran issue and offered Russia’s assistance in mediation if necessary. The two leaders agreed to continue to engage with all parties to maintain stability in the Middle East.
Incidentally, tensions have recently increased in Iran over ongoing unrest, anti-government protests and threats of US military intervention. Although Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has claimed that the situation in the country is now under control, analysts see the Putin-Netanyahu phone call as significant in regional diplomacy.
