A civic mourning meeting has begun at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in memory of three-time former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and his family are participating in the meeting. He is accompanied by his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman and daughter Barrister Jayma Rahman.
The formal condolence meeting began with recitation of the Quran at 3:05 pm on Friday (January 16). The condolence speech was presented by Saleh Uddin, Executive Editor of Daily Ittefaq.
No political party leaders are speaking at the condolence meeting. Prominent citizens of the country, researchers, doctors, teachers, religious representatives, representatives of the hill community and various professional leaders are delivering condolence speeches. Former Chief Justice Syed J. R. Modasshir Hossain is presiding over the program. Ashraf Kaiser and Kazi Jasin are presenting.
Invited guests started entering the South Plaza of the Parliament Building after the Friday prayers. At this time, a significant crowd was observed at Gate No. 6 of the Parliament Building.
