Students have announced a new program after blocking various important roads in the capital to demand the implementation of the proposed Dhaka Central University, which will be a combination of seven colleges. On Wednesday afternoon, students protesting at Gabtoli Technical Intersection announced that they would end today’s program.
Bangla College student Masum Billah said that a peaceful sit-in program will be held simultaneously at the capital’s Science Lab, Gabtoli Technical and Tantibazar intersection in Old Dhaka from 11 am to 1 pm next Thursday (January 15).
He said, “Even though today’s program is over, the students will not deviate even a hair from the main demands of the movement. According to the students, this is not a one-day movement; rather, it is a long struggle for the future and rights.”
The protesters said their goal is clear – to ensure the right to education. They will continue their peaceful movement in unity to achieve that goal.
The students’ main demand is that the ‘Dhaka Central University Act-2025’ should be approved at the interim government’s advisory council meeting on January 15 and at the same time, the final ordinance should be issued by the President.
