The body of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is being taken from Firoza Bhaban in Gulshan to Manik Mia Avenue for the funeral. The motorcade carrying the body wrapped in the national flag left Firoza Bhaban at 11:04 am on Wednesday.
Among the family members present in the convoy were BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman, daughter Zaima Rahman and late Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife and relatives. Earlier, the body was brought from Evercare Hospital to Firoza Bhaban at 9:15 am, where relatives and party leaders and activists paid their last respects.
Khaleda Zia will be buried with state honours next to the tomb of her husband, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, after the funeral at Manik Mia Avenue. People have been thronging Manik Mia Avenue since morning to attend the funeral. 27 platoons of BGB have been deployed in the capital to ensure overall security.
It is worth noting that Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at 6 am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at the capital’s Evercare Hospital. The government has declared three days of state mourning from Wednesday to Friday following her death. In addition, Wednesday is being observed as a general holiday across the country.
