Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, a former advisor to the current interim government and one of the coordinators of the student movement, has officially joined the new political party ‘National Citizens Party’ or NCP. He will serve as the spokesperson of the party.
A top NCP leader said that Asif Mahmud may be given the responsibility of the party spokesperson. On the occasion of his joining, the NCP has called an emergency press conference at the party office this evening. The party convener Nahid Islam will be present at the event.
Asif Mahmud had resigned from the post of advisor to the interim government in order to contest the upcoming elections. However, it is learnt that he is not contesting the elections in the end. Party sources say that for now, he will serve as the spokesperson of the NCP.
It is worth noting that Asif Mahmud had collected nomination papers to contest the election from Dhaka-10 constituency. At the same time, his supporters also collected nomination papers from Comilla-3 constituency. However, till Monday evening, there was no information about his submission of nomination papers from any constituency.
