BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has completed the formalities of becoming a voter by registering for a National Identity Card (NID). He went to the Election Training Institute in Agargaon in the capital around 1pm on Saturday (December 27) to get his name included in the voter list.
Election Commission sources said that all the necessary biometric information including Tarique Rahman’s photograph, fingerprints and iris were collected there. NID Wing Director General ASM Humayun Kabir said it may take a maximum of one day to get his national identity card.
According to the Election Commission rules, to participate in the national elections, one must be a voter of any constituency in the country. Accordingly, Tarique Rahman has applied online as a voter of Ward No. 19 in Gulshan area of Dhaka-17 constituency in the capital.
Meanwhile, BNP sources said that nomination papers for Bogra-6 constituency have already been collected on behalf of Tarique Rahman. Necessary documents will have to be submitted while submitting the nomination papers.
The last date for collecting and submitting nomination forms for those interested in participating in the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections is December 29.
