The plane carrying BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has left Sylhet for Dhaka. The plane left Sylhet Osmani International Airport at 11:04 am on Thursday (December 25).
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is returning home on Thursday, December 25, ending a 17-year wait. Since Wednesday night, the Purbachal 300-feet area of the capital has turned into an exceptional political festival venue in view of his return home.
From Kuril to the reception area, leaders and activists from different parts of the country flocked. The entire area became filled with group slogans, processions, placards, and party and patriotic songs played on speaker trucks. One slogan was repeatedly chanted— “The leader is coming.”
Police and law enforcement agencies have been deployed to manage the crowd of leaders and activists and ensure overall security. The Inspector General of Police inspected the stage area at night. Security posts have been set up at every intersection, and coordinated surveillance is underway.
An activist from Rangpur said, “The leader’s return to the country after many years is like the joy of Eid for us.” Many others from Jamalpur and the northern region expressed the same sentiment—for them, this night is like a ‘moon night’.
It is learnt that Tarique Rahman will reach the reception stage directly from the airport. The huge 48 by 36 feet stage has been prepared with hard work day and night. The BNP leadership hopes that the people’s presence at this reception will turn into a historic political rally.
