Dhaka—BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman will be the only speaker at the reception ceremony, party standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said at a press conference at the BNP chairperson’s political office in Gulshan on Wednesday.
Salahuddin Ahmed said that Tarique Rahman does not support any program that can cause public suffering. That is why he has banned leaders and activists from attending London’s Heathrow Airport. Attempts have been made to implement the same directive in Bangladesh, although he admitted that it was not 100% possible.
According to Tarique Rahman’s plan, upon returning home, he will go straight to the hospital to meet his ailing mother and later visit the graves of his father and brother. With this in mind, he has scheduled his return home to fall within three consecutive days of government holidays.
The party said that under its direction, no program will be held at Suhrawardy Udyan or Manikmiya Avenue in the capital. Instead, a short event will be held on one side of the service lane of the 300-foot-wide highway at one end of the city.
At the event, Tarique Rahman will express gratitude to the countrymen, pray for Begum Khaleda Zia and wish for the well-being of the country. BNP has made it clear that there will be no other speakers at this reception.
