BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is embarking on his journey back to his home country after 17 years. He is leaving for Dhaka from London today, Wednesday, December 24. He is scheduled to depart from Heathrow Airport at 6:15 pm local time (12:15 am Bangladesh time) on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-202.
Tarique Rahman is returning home with his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman. According to the scheduled schedule, he is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 11:55 am tomorrow, Thursday.
BNP has prepared receptions and political programs across the country, including in the capital, to mark the return. There has been widespread interest and excitement among the party’s leaders and activists.
However, on December 16, at an event in London, Tarique Rahman himself urged party leaders and activists not to go to the airport. He said that everyone should maintain discipline, considering the interests of the country and the prestige of the party. In his words, ignoring this request would be considered an expression of personal interest.
Tarique Rahman had been staying in London since 2008 for medical treatment. The possibility of his return to the country came into fresh discussion after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5. According to political analysts, this return could become a significant moment in the country’s politics.
