Students, including DUCSU leaders, have surrounded the Vice-Chancellor’s office and staged a protest demanding the renaming of some halls at Dhaka University. They gathered in front of the administrative building on Sunday afternoon.
The protesters demanded that the name of Mujib Hall be changed to ‘Shaheed Osman Hadi Hall’ and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall be changed to ‘Bir Pratik Setara Begum Hall’ . They also called for administrative action against teachers, officials and employees who supported the July violence.
Various slogans were raised at the rally. DUCSU Social Services Secretary AB Zubair said that no symbol of tyranny will be kept in the university and those who played a role in the July incident must be held accountable.
Increased vigilance can be observed in the administrative building area surrounding the program.
