Sharif Osman Hadi, an independent candidate and spokesperson for the Inqilab Manch, who was shot in the capital’s Bijoynagar, is in a critical condition and is on ‘life support’ at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Hospital authorities said the bullet is still inside his head.
On Friday afternoon, two miscreants on a motorcycle opened fire on Hadi in the Box Culvert area and fled. Hadi was in a rickshaw on his way to the High Court after Friday prayers. His relative Rafi, who was in the rickshaw behind him, said the incident happened within seconds.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police officials say the attack occurred around 2:25 pm and an investigation is underway.
Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, has expressed deep concern over the attack on Osman Hadi. He has ordered the attackers to be identified and brought to justice as soon as possible. The motive and plan of the attack are being investigated, the sources said.
