Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, has congratulated the Election Commission for announcing the schedule for the 13th National Assembly elections and the referendum on the implementation of the July National Charter-2025.
In a message on Thursday night, he said the schedule was “an important milestone in Bangladesh’s democratic journey” that would further cement the country’s new momentum after the historic mass uprising. According to him, the elections and referendum would bring the people’s views to the center and “strengthen the foundation of a new Bangladesh.”
The chief advisor expressed hope that the Election Commission would fulfill its constitutional responsibilities “independently, impartially and with the utmost professionalism.” He said the government would provide all necessary support to make the elections peaceful and participatory.
He called on political parties, candidates, media, civil society, and citizens to embrace the elections and referendum as “an initiative for national unity.” Respect for dissent and a peaceful environment—in his opinion—will stabilize the days ahead.
At the end of the message, he said, “Bangladesh is on the threshold of a new future today. Through active participation and responsible behavior, we will be able to build a modern, just and prosperous state.
