Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin briefed the interim government’s principal advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus on the overall preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections and referendum. A full delegation of the Election Commission attended the meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna on Sunday evening.
The CEC said the commission is “fully prepared” to hold the national elections and referendum on the same day in the first half of February. He said every stage of preparations is progressing as planned and citizen participation in election-related activities at the field level is also becoming evident.
Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Machud, Tahmida Ahmed, Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar, retired Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah and the commission’s senior secretary Akhtar Ahmed were present at the meeting. National Security Advisor Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Principal Secretary to the Chief Advisor M Siraj Uddin Mia were present on behalf of the government.
Expressing satisfaction with the commission’s preparations, the chief advisor pledged that the interim government would continue to provide all-out cooperation to the Election Commission to ensure a “fair and impartial election.” He described the election as “the nation’s long-awaited moment” and said the government was committed to delivering the best election in history.
