Bangladesh Congress, a registered political party, has filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking a stay on all activities related to the 13th National Parliament election. The writ was filed by the party’s Secretary General, Advocate Yarul Islam, on Wednesday.
The writ petition seeks a direction from the executive branch to declare the appointment of the Election Commission’s secretary, returning and assistant returning officers illegal and to form an independent administrative structure for the Election Commission — the Electoral Service Commission . It also seeks a stay on the upcoming national elections until the writ is disposed of.
The writ petition is scheduled to be heard next week by a bench headed by Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi.
Advocate Yarul Islam said that there have been indications of control by the DCs in the elections, which would “create the risk of another influenced election.
