BNP has postponed all its programmes to mark Victory Day due to the hospitalization of its chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia. The party’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the decision at a press conference in Nayapaltan on Sunday.
Rizvi said Khaleda Zia’s physical condition is “as critical as ever” and the medical board has not yet made any recommendations on taking her abroad. He urged the countrymen to pray for Khaleda Zia’s recovery on behalf of the party.
Khaleda Zia, 80, has been suffering from various ailments for a long time, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis and kidney complications. She was admitted to Evercare Hospital on November 23 after experiencing breathing difficulties, where doctors have been keeping her under close observation.
Responsible party sources say that BNP believes it is necessary to suspend political programs at this time of medical crisis.
