The National Sports Council has reconstituted the new committee of the Bangladesh Badminton Federation. In a decision released on Monday, a 19-member committee has been formed with entrepreneur and sports organizer Md. Habib Ullah Don as president and Russell Kabir Sumon as general secretary.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports hopes that this committee will help badminton, which has been stagnant for a long time, make a new start.
Habib Ullah Don has been involved in the country’s sports for three decades. He served as the vice-president of the cricket committee of the Mohammedan Sporting Club for a long time and played a role in the development of sports at the grassroots level as the vice-president of the Gymnastics and Volleyball Federation. He is also known as one of the organizers of the Gulshan Badminton Club.
In the business arena, A.M. Group Chairman Don has also contributed to the development of the private sector as Vice President of FBCCI and four-term President of Barvida.
The formation of the new committee has raised optimism among badminton-related circles. Those concerned believe that the committee will play an active role in developing infrastructure at the district and upazila levels and organizing regular national and international competitions.
