A bilateral meeting between Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering was held on Saturday. The Bhutanese leader arrived at the Chief Adviser’s Office around 4 p.m., where Dr. Yunus welcomed him with flowers. The two exchanged brief remarks before sitting for a delegation-level meeting.
Earlier in the afternoon, Prime Minister Tshering had met with Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs and Commerce Advisers. A state dinner was scheduled in his honor in the evening.
Prime Minister Tshering is on a three-day official visit and is expected to depart Dhaka on 24 November.
He arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 8 a.m. on Saturday. The Chief Adviser received him at the airport, where the Bhutanese leader was offered a guard of honor.
During a short meeting at the airport’s VIP lounge, Tshering inquired about Friday’s earthquake that caused casualties and damage across Bangladesh, expressing condolences to the families of the victims. He later received a military guard of honor, including a 19-gun salute.
Following the ceremony, the Bhutanese prime minister traveled to Savar to lay a wreath at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in tribute to the heroes of Bangladesh’s Liberation War.
Traveling with him are Bhutan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade Lyonpo D.N. Dhungyel, Minister of Industry, Trade and Employment Lyonpo Namgyal Dorji, and other senior officials.
