Narsingdi was rattled by another earthquake within just 24 hours. According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, a mild quake was felt in the Palash area of Narsingdi at 10:36 AM on Saturday (22 November). The magnitude was 3.3 on the Richter scale. Although the tremor lasted only a short time, it caused brief panic among residents.
A notice signed by meteorologist Nizamuddin Ahmed on the department’s website stated that the epicenter was located in Palash, Narsingdi, and that the quake originated at a relatively shallow depth. Because of the shallow origin, the tremor was felt more strongly in nearby areas.
Notably, just 24 hours earlier, on Friday (21 November), a powerful earthquake was felt across the country, shaking Dhaka and multiple districts. At least 10 people were reported dead, and many buildings developed cracks. Several structures in Old Dhaka were damaged, prompting immediate rescue operations from emergency services.
Now, another tremor in Narsingdi has heightened public anxiety. Locals said they were already on edge after Friday’s quake; Saturday morning’s tremor added to their fears. No immediate reports of damage or injuries were available.
Meanwhile, an individual injured in Friday’s earthquake in Narsingdi has died while undergoing treatment. Discussions have resurfaced about building safety and structural vulnerabilities across affected regions.
The Meteorological Department has urged residents in quake-prone zones to remain alert. Authorities have been advised to examine whether buildings are structurally sound to withstand future shocks.
A correction regarding the earthquake’s origin was also issued. Initially, a meteorological official reported that the epicenter was in Baipail, Savar. Reports were published accordingly. However, revised data later confirmed the epicenter was in Palash, Narsingdi. Reports have since been updated.
Experts say the recent series of quakes may indicate stress accumulation beneath the earth’s surface. Although minor quakes can sometimes reduce the likelihood of a major one, people are still advised to stay cautious and be prepared to move to a safe place if needed. Monitoring centers are closely observing the situation and will issue alerts if necessary.
