Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay has paid homage to the martyrs of Bangladesh’s Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar. He placed a floral wreath at the monument and signed the visitors’ book. Later, he planted a tree on the memorial grounds.
Earlier in the morning, at 8:15 a.m., Prime Minister Tobgay arrived in Dhaka on a DrukAir flight for a two-day state visit. Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus received him at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The two leaders held a brief meeting at the airport’s VIP lounge, during which Prime Minister Tobgay inquired about the casualties and damage from Friday’s earthquake and expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims.
Following the meeting, the Bhutanese leader was accorded a gun salute and guard of honor. After completing the airport formalities, he departed for the National Memorial in Savar.
Later today, Prime Minister Tobgay is scheduled to meet Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser and Commerce Adviser. Around 3 p.m., he will hold a private meeting with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus at his office in Tejgaon.
A state dinner will be hosted in his honor this evening.
