A Bangladesh–India football match always brings extra excitement, and today was no different. Even before kickoff, crowds filled the National Stadium to capacity. Several government advisers and prominent figures were also present to witness the match.
Bangladesh defeated India 1–0 — a long-awaited victory that came after 22 years. The win sent waves of joy across the country’s sporting community. Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan visited the dressing room after the match to celebrate with the players.
He announced a bonus of Tk 20 million (2 crore) for the historic win. National team manager Amer Khan said the adviser’s announcement greatly motivated the players.
The BFF president joined the team later for a dinner gathering. Hamza is scheduled to leave Dhaka for England tomorrow morning.
Earlier, Adviser Sajib Bhuiyan awarded female footballers Tk 15 million in two installments — Tk 10 million for winning the SAFF Championship last year and Tk 5 million for qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup. Both promises were fulfilled.
In contrast, despite announcing Tk 15 million for the women’s SAFF champions, the Bangladesh Football Federation has yet to deliver the amount even after more than a year.
