A local Jubo Dal leader, Golam Kibria, was shot dead by unidentified assailants while sitting inside a hardware shop in Dhaka’s Pallabi neighborhood on Monday evening.
Police said that around 6:40 p.m., three men arrived on a motorcycle and entered the Bikrampur Hardware & Sanitary store in Section 12. They fired seven rounds at Kibria—targeting his head, chest, and back at close range—before fleeing the scene. Officers later recovered seven shell casings.
Kibria was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Pallabi Police Station chief Mofizur Rahman confirmed Kibria’s death, noting that he served as the unit’s member secretary. Authorities are investigating the motive and identifying the attackers.
Aminul Haque, convenor of BNP’s Dhaka North unit, said Kibria had been sitting inside the shop when the assailants opened fire. Locals who heard the gunshots found him collapsed moments after the attackers escaped.
Police are treating the incident as a targeted killing and have begun a full investigation.
