Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who turned state witness in the case filed over crimes against humanity committed during the July–August movement, was brought to the International Crimes Tribunal on Thursday morning.
Under tight security, police brought him to the tribunal from prison in a prison van shortly after 9 a.m. The case also names the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, both of whom remain fugitives.
The tribunal is scheduled to announce the date for delivering the verdict in this case today. The three-member International Crimes Tribunal–1, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mojumdar, has listed the case as number one on its awaiting-verdict docket.
Meanwhile, strict security measures have been enforced around the court area ahead of the verdict announcement. Around 7:30 a.m., Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), and members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) were seen deployed near the tribunal adjacent to the High Court Mazar. Armored vehicles from BGB and DMP were also positioned in the area.
