In a major administrative shake-up ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, the government has appointed new Deputy Commissioners (DCs) in 29 districts across the country within just two days.
The large-scale reshuffle — carried out through transfers and reassignments — underscores the administration’s effort to realign the field-level bureaucracy before the polls, where DCs serve as returning officers.
According to the Ministry of Public Administration, 14 districts received new DCs on Sunday, while appointments in 15 other districts were finalized late Saturday night. The move, described as one of the most extensive changes in recent months, is aimed at strengthening local governance and ensuring smooth election management.
Among the new appointments, Narail DC Sharmin Akhtar Jahan has been transferred to Brahmanbaria, while Meherpur DC Mohammad Abdul Salam will take charge of Narail. Environment Department Director Md. Abdullah Al Masud has been appointed as Jhenaidah DC, and Ministry of Home Affairs Deputy Secretary Lutfun Nahar has been made DC of Meherpur. Other notable postings include Md. Aslam Molla (Kishoreganj), Md. Momin Uddin (Jhalakathi), Md. Arif-uz-Zaman (Gopalganj), and Md. Saifur Rahman (Mymensingh).
The first round of transfers, announced Saturday night, covered key districts including Dhaka, Khulna, Gazipur, Bogura, and Noakhali. In this phase, six DCs were reassigned to new districts while nine new officers were promoted to the post of Deputy Commissioner. Among them, Barguna DC Mohammad Shafiul Alam was transferred to Dhaka, while Bagerhat DC Ahmed Kamrul Hasan moved to Noakhali, and Khulna DC Md. Toufiqueur Rahman was posted to Bogura.
Several new faces have also entered district administration leadership. Sandwip Kumar Singh, Chief Executive Officer of Sylhet Zila Parishad, has been made DC of Barguna; Aminul Islam of BADC appointed to Sirajganj; and Abdullah Al Mahmud, Private Secretary to the Trade Adviser, to Magura. Additionally, Deputy Secretary Abu Sayeed (Pirojpur), Afroza Akhter (Satkhira), and Golam Mohammad Baten (Bagerhat) were among those newly appointed to lead district administrations.
Meanwhile, the outgoing DCs from these 29 districts have been reassigned to various ministries and government departments. Officials at the Ministry of Public Administration confirmed that further transfers may follow in the coming weeks as part of election-focused administrative restructuring.
