Former Finance, Foreign and Relief Minister, and former Member of Parliament for Dinajpur-4, Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali (83), has passed away. He died on Thursday (November 6) evening while undergoing treatment at BIRDEM Hospital in Dhaka.
Family sources confirmed that Mahmood Ali had been suffering from kidney complications and had been in the ICU at BIRDEM for the past 13 days. He passed away this evening. His funeral prayer will be held tonight in front of his residence in Dhanmondi, and he will be buried at Banani Graveyard the same night.
Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali was born on 2 June 1943 in Khamar Vishnuganj village of Bherbheri Union in Khansama upazila of Dinajpur.
He completed his studies in Economics at Dhaka University in 1963 and later joined the same department as a lecturer. From 1964 to 1966, he served as a lecturer in Economics at Dhaka University. In 1966, he joined the then Pakistan Foreign Service (PFS). He later served as the last Finance Minister of the former Awami League government.
