Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdha, brother of Shaheed Mir Mughdha of the July uprising, has formally obtained preliminary membership in the BNP. The ceremony took place on Tuesday night (4 November), with BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman joining virtually.
Also present were BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, members of the Standing Committee, and Snigdha’s father Mir Mostafizur Rahman.
According to party sources, Snigdha may receive the party’s nomination from the Dhaka-18 constituency, although BNP has not officially announced any candidate yet. Political analysts believe that the direct political involvement of a member of the Shaheed family could have a positive impact among young voters and communities inspired by the spirit of the July uprising.
The Dhaka-18 constituency includes wards 1, 17, 43–54 of North City Corporation and six police station areas in Greater Uttara.
The party high command believes that if Snigdha is nominated from this constituency, it could positively influence young voters and the electorate motivated by the July uprising. Since BNP has not officially announced the candidate for Dhaka-18, speculation about Snigdha’s nomination is growing stronger.
