A fire at the cargo section of Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport has disrupted operations, forcing several incoming flights to be diverted to alternate airports in Chattogram, Sylhet, and Kolkata.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon. According to airport sources, a US-Bangla Airlines flight from Bangkok landed in Chattogram, an IndiGo flight from Delhi landed in Kolkata, and an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah also landed in Chattogram.
Meanwhile, a Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong failed to land at Shahjalal and was circling over Chattogram airspace. A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Saidpur and a US-Bangla flight from Chattogram both returned to Chattogram after being unable to land in Dhaka.
Departing flights from Dhaka were also affected, with Batik Air’s Kuala Lumpur-bound OD-163 and IndiGo’s Mumbai-bound 6E-1116 flights stranded on the taxiway.
Airport authorities said the situation in the cargo village area is being closely monitored, with passenger safety given the highest priority. Normal flight operations will resume once the fire is fully brought under control.
