The Communist Party of China has dismissed nine top generals from both their party and military positions, marking one of the largest internal purges within the country’s armed forces in decades.
According to a statement from China’s Ministry of Defense, the generals are suspected of serious financial crimes. Most of them hold the rank of three-star general and were members of the Central Committee, the Communist Party’s key decision-making body.
While the official statement described the move as part of an anti-corruption campaign, analysts suggest it may also be linked to political cleansing efforts within the military.
The dismissals took place just before the Central Committee’s plenary session, where discussions on the country’s economic development plans and the election of new members are scheduled.
Observers note that under President Xi Jinping’s leadership, the campaign to ensure discipline and loyalty within the armed forces could expand even further in the coming days.
